Testament to the hard work of campaigners that plans for Barnard Park have been scuppered

• IT is testament to the hard work of campaigners that Islington Council plans for Barnard Park have been scuppered.

Questions must be asked as to why the council was so eager to downsize the community pitch.

At full council, Councillor Claudia Webbe claimed council plans for the park did not result in a reduction in sport facilities. The government’s intervention and the subsequent withdrawal of the plans show this was never the case.

It’s time for the council to sit down with everyone who uses the park and to rethink the plans. The council should refurbish the pitch and preserve the size.

Every week hundreds of children learn their footballing skills and have fun at Barnard Park. Why would the council want to change that?
