An injured Blitz after he was found on Northern line tracks at Tufnell Park station in 2020 following a terrifying ordeal
A SAD song with haunting lyrics about coming to terms with the loss of an adventurous cat who survived a terrifying ordeal on the tube has been released by its former owner.
Emma Lynne, 21 – and up and coming singer – is hoping her single Are You Inside? might end the mystery of his disappearance.
The Tribune reported in 2020 how Blitz was rescued by emergency services after getting trapped on the Northern line tracks in Tufnell Park station.
It was estimated that 250 tube trains thundered above him as he lay stricken on the tracks with a broken back, later having his tail amputated.
Blitz went missing a second and third time, in 2022, never to be seen again by his family.
Emma said: “The first time Blitz went missing it was just before lockdown and I was in Year 11 at Parliament Hill.
“It was on my dad’s birthday and I remember I had been to school and came back expecting everyone to have had a nice day, but they told me he had been in his accident.
Owner and songwriter Emma Lynne and her single Are You Inside?
“It was obviously horrible and quite a stressful couple of days. There was the unknown, about how he survived. He was also missing his tail and he had broken his back. But he made a full recovery.”
She added: “The second and third time he went missing was much worse.
“But definitely I became stronger about it over time. I like to think that he was taken in by an old person and is happy.”
The lyrics include questions about whether Blitz the cat is “too embarrassed” to come home, whether Emma is to blame in some way, and there is a section about hoping her parents won’t move house in case he does one day return.
One line says: “Are you lost, are you scared, are my worst nightmares come true?”
Ms Lynne – whose music speaks to anyone whose beloved pet has gone missing – is just about to finish a degree in songwriting and is hoping to launch a full-time career as a musician.
She has played live at venues including the Fiddler’s Elbow, and in Soho music festivals.
Her music is self-produced using software on her laptop and Are You Inside? features samples of sounds of tube trains from the Tufnell Park station and “fake piano”.
Emma said: “Blitz and his sister would always go about in pairs.
“They would hunt together, worms mainly. Where we live, it backs on onto gardens and he’d be out there or down road – on the neighbours’ trampoline. He was the first male cat we ever had and he was so loud – he would announce himself when he walked into the room and demand a stroke – while his sister barely meows.
“He would sleep on my bed overnight.
“I have been singing since I was seven years old. I love writing sad songs and I love telling stories.
“I have so many stories to tell but this is my favourite one. It is so personal – but it can be adapted to mean something for anyone really.
“I do lots of songs that are about darker stories, relationships. But I don’t want them to all be sad break-up songs.”
She added: “I have been building a bit of a following – on TikTok especially. It’s quite cool to see, but I think it’s important not to get obsessed by the numbers.
“To be honest I’ve found social media quite difficult because I’ve got a bit of a baby face. I keep getting banned on TikTok because the AI thinks I’m too young. I got banned for months because they thought I was under 18.
“The plan is to get some sun after uni finishes and then come back and really get my songs out there.”
Are You Inside? is on Spotify, Apple Music, and Soundcloud.
