A common market soon to be a black market

• GOOD to see the return of Stephen Horne with a measured and temperate contribution, (We have to cough up for EU pensions, July 6).

In truth, it was the UK that voted by a clear majority to leave the EU, including this “English idiot”. Bit of a salty comment but no offence taken by me, can’t speak for others.

When it comes to questionable standards in the expenses department, maybe Mr Horne should cast his net wider.

Look at, who knows, something like married couples living together while each claiming accommodation allowance. Probably never happened, you can’t believe all you read.

The statement made by Paul Lasok that “Relying on what your grandad did during the war cuts no ice” beggars belief for its sheer lack of respect, (There is nothing odd in the UK making a payment to the EU when it leaves, July 6).

He should remember that were it not for that generation there would be no EU to leave.

By “…cutting no ice” is he making oblique reference to the Arctic convoys? Why only your grandad? Is he not aware that women were involved in cutting no ice in both world wars?

SOE in occupied Europe, ferrying Spitfires around, manufacturing aircraft, code-breaking and other everyday stuff. Nothing too challenging.

The danger of trying to diminish the achievement of that generation will be better revealed to Mr Lasok if he were to look into the Croatia-Italy football match in June 2015.

He might take the opportunity to apologise through the pages of this paper, but I wouldn’t expect much.

Returning to the wartime motif, I must be off to panic-buy tinned goods in anticipation of the predicted post-Brexit rationing, (How long before rationing starts if we crash out of EU? July 6).

The hopelessness of it all, once a common market soon to be a black market.
