Islington North MP Jeremy Corbyn
TRADE UNIONS, independent politicians and campaign groups came together on Tuesday evening at the Finsbury Park Mosque for a panel discussion that asked: How can the left turn the tide?
Islington North MP Jeremy Corbyn and Independent Councillor Ilkay Cinko-Oner spoke to a packed room along with Sir Keir Starmer’s challenger in Holborn and St Pancras, Andrew Feinstein, and representatives from organisations We Demand Change and Stop The War.
Cllr Cinko-Oner told the Tribune she felt “very privileged” to be invited to speak at the event, which was a “call out for people to campaign, canvass, and demand change”.
She said: “I don’t think there’s any left in mainstream politics. I think the way forward is to promote independent voices – people that have integrity.
“There are loads of brilliant community activists and organisations, we just need to be unified.
“The people are fed up now. If we want change, it’s the people that can make change.”
Holding the event in Islington was significant, she added, because the borough is “the home of rebellion, the home of resistance,” and being in the Mosque showed “all people from all walks of life coming together.”
