THE murder of student Mahir Osman in crowded Camden High Street more than four years ago is to be again investigated by an Old Bailey jury.

Following the sentencing in 2007 of 14 accused – three given life for murder – another suspect appeared in court this week.

Lawyers for the accused, Ahmed Farah, made no bail application, and Judge Giles Forrester remanded him to prison custody.

Farah, 24, arrested at Heathrow on his return to the UK, will be back in court on October 26 for a fuller hearing at which he will be asked to enter a plea to the allegation that he was party to the murder of 18-year-old student Mahir.

The victim, known as “Smiley”, lived with his family in Gilbey’s Yard, Camden Town.

He was targeted by a gang of rival Somalis on a Saturday night, January 28, 2006, and attacked by as many as 30 assailants in the street outside Camden Town Tube station.

Mahir was knifed repeatedly, with three of the wounds to the back proving fatal.

Others involved in the attack leapt on a bus to escape and are believed to have fled abroad.
