Expanding the range of sports on offer at the Sobell Leisure Centre
• WE’RE determined to create a more equal Islington, where everyone can enjoy the physical, mental, and social benefits of staying active.
That’s why it was so important that we gave local people the opportunity to have their say on the future of the Sobell Leisure Centre, and 1,003 people took part in our consultation.
You told us that you wanted a more inclusive range of activities, that people of all ages and backgrounds can enjoy. And we’ve listened.
We’re going to be working directly with people from groups that are typically under-represented in physical activity such as women and girls, low-income families, disabled people, Black, Asian, and minority ethnic communities, and older adults, to create an inclusive programme of activities.
Following your feedback, we’re also going to be expanding the range of sports on offer, and sports that could be added to the site include handball, paddle tennis, archery, netball, indoor cricket, and hockey.
We’re really looking forward to working directly with the community to create a truly inclusive range programme of activities, that all can benefit from and enjoy.
