Another vote will be a real test of the Will of the People

Islington residents who took part in the march for a People’s Vote
• SATURDAY’S march for a People’s Vote showed very clearly the massive support across the country, and across party lines, for a new take on what the Will of the People actually is.
Not surprisingly – although Islington’s two MPs were elsewhere – there was a strong Islington presence, and that included lots of Labour members marching alongside supporters of other parties and none.
In parallel, some 50,000 Islington residents, over a third of the electorate, have now signed the petition calling for the whole Brexit project to be stopped.
So “revoke” must surely be one of the options on the ballot paper when, as we must hope, the People’s Vote materialises.
The People’s Vote holds out the prospect of an up-to-date, much fairer and better-informed measure of the Will of the People than we had in 2016.
However the result might turn out, it would surely command wider assent than the last shambles, setting us on the road to sorely-needed reconciliation.
