ARSENAL has set up a Ukraine Supporters’ Club in the wake of the Russian invasion – and has urged fans to donate to humanitarian appeals.

The N5 club has supporters’ clubs in various countries, but not before this week in war-hit Ukraine.

The Gunners included the name of former player Oleg Luzhny – who has said he is now ready to fight for his country in the town of Lviv – on the programme squad sheet for home matches this week.

Luzhny told Sky News by WhatsApp: “The situation is horrific. I want to come to coach in the UK but before anything I will stand firmly and fight for my people, for my country and for democracy. We all hope this will be over soon as innocent lives are being lost and families are being torn apart.”

Arsenal are urging fans to donate to humanitarian appeals supported by its charity partner, Save The Children. Club CEO Vinai Venkatesham said: “The creation of Arsenal Ukraine Supporters’ Club and our collective donations to Save the Children follows the support we have already shown including Ukrainian flag armbands, lighting up Emirates Stadium blue and yellow, and a ‘moment of solidarity’ during the men’s match v Watford and women’s match against Reading last week.”
