AFTER years of searching, a homeless outreach charity has finally found a permanent home in Finsbury Park.

Set to open next year, the Museum of Homelessness is moving into Manor House Lodge in Finsbury Park after years of holding transient “pop-up museums” across Islington and other boroughs.

Founded by Jess and Matt Turtle, the charity works to support homeless people with housing and legal rights as well as hosting performances, talks and workshops developed by people with experience of homelessness.

The organisation is also working to preserve an archive of objects and records documenting the history of homelessness.

The new building will house this archive as well as an open-access professional arts studio, and a hub for workshops and talks.

Mr Turtle said the organisation is “delighted to be putting down our roots” after seven years of “working in borrowed venues”.

“Finsbury Park is the people’s park, with a proud and radical history.

“We are excited about transforming this precious site into a museum space like no other, a place where people can hear stories they won’t hear anyone else and receive practical support when they need it,” Mr Turtle said.

Sharon Heal, of the chair of trustees, said the new building was “ground breaking” and “everything a museum should be, rooted and radical and with a far-reaching ambition to make positive and lasting change with our communities”.
