FIFTY bankers descended on a children’s playground to repair it after fun-seekers were left without a flying fox for eight months.

Toffee Park Adventure Playground in Old Street now features a revamped zip line and a reopened climbing frame after the bankers, from Bank ABC, made much-needed improvements to the Ironmonger Row playground last month.

Of particular excitement to young explorers will be the new shelter and food prep area for the fire pit.

“An amazing addition will be a new outdoor food preparation area that will allow children to cook on the fire, whatever the weather,” said playground coordinator Annie Cook, from Islington Play Association, which manage five adventure playgrounds for Islington Council.

“Our zipwire, slide and main play structure have been out of action for the past eight months and have been greatly missed by the children,” she said.

Ms Cook described the playground as one of the borough’s “much-loved” adventure playgrounds, which are important for youngsters as a place where they can “play, explore, take risks and be themselves”.

Adventure play is an important part of a child’s development, she added, as it allows them to build their confidence and resilience and gives them an opportunity to use their imagination and creativity in play.

Bank ABC carried out the improvements over two days in June, with 25 workers attending each day, as part of their commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility.

The revamp was facilitated by Splash Projects, which works by introducing businesses with not-for-profit organisations and charities in order to allow businesses and business schools to fulfil their corporate social responsibility ambitions and “give back” to society.

ABC Bank CEO Rajeev Adrian said: “Working collaboratively, with passion, enthusiasm, and unwavering focus over two days to produce something that will enrich the lives of children, and at the same time contribute to the betterment of society, is something that makes Bank ABC very proud.”
