Barnsbury estate waits for answers

Friday, 14th July 2017

• I HAVE to agree with Isaac Amoako’s comments about Barnsbury estate (Lack of security on estate makes our lives stressful, June 23).

Newlon Housing, which is based at Tottenham Hale, more than five-and-a-half miles from the estate, is not at all reliable. We residents have never been listened to. The only time you get to see a member of Newlon Housing is at an agm meeting.

Barnsbury estate has many problems, some of which have been waiting to be dealt with for years. Newlon Housing makes a considerable amount of money each year but won’t spend any on getting things repaired or sorted around the estate.

More CCTV cameras need to be installed in some high-risk areas as there is a continuing problem with groups of people who gather on the estate.

Years ago they started fitting fire doors at the flats, but money ran out and the other flats did not have them fitted. Others are left waiting weeks and months for repairs to be fixed.

Barnsbury residents need to feel safe and reassured in their homes. There are many women with small children as well as elderly and vulnerable people. They can feel trapped when lifts break down and it takes more than three weeks to fix a lift.

Residents need answers. They need to be listened to, not ignored. Newlon Housing prefers to respond by email or phone because it cannot be bothered to come to the estate.
