A RECORD number of people showed up on Sunday to take in the sights, sounds and smells of the Cally Fest for its 11th year.

Organisers say more than 10,000 attended the annual celebration of everything Caledonian Road and beyond this year, with roads shut to traffic and more than 50 stalls lining the street.

Mobo-winning saxophonist YolanDa Brown was just one of the acts at this year’s Cally Fest

Russell Swallow, one of Cally Fest’s producers and one of more than 30 working to stage the event, said: “It has grown steadily. It’s always been this bustling diverse take on what Islington and the Cally have to offer but I think we’ve really hit the ground running this year in terms of investment, the vibrancy, the colours. London can be an up and down place but it was a beautiful day with everyone having feelgood vibes. It was really good fun.”

Among the musicians to wow on the stage – graced with more than 30 acts over the day – was Mobo-winning saxophonist YolanDa Brown, who was awarded an OBE this year for services to music, education and broadcasting.

Other acts included an autistic choir, a “jazz funk odyssey” and an all-brass band.
