SIMON Cowell’s infamous judgement was no match for Islington singer Alexandra Barrett, who won four “yeses” from the panel at her audition for the new series of Britain’s Got Talent.
Ms Barrett, from Clerkenwell, hadn’t performed for four years when she stepped out to sing to her biggest ever audience last October, including judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, KSI and Mr Cowell – with Ant and Dec watching from the wings, of course.
When her now almost two-year-old was born, Ms Barrett suffered from post-natal depression and found that singing was the only thing that could calm both her and the baby down.
She started posting videos on TikTok, a few clips went viral, and it wasn’t long before BGT got in touch.
“It felt like my life had done a 360,” said Ms Barrett, who brought judge Ms Holden to tears with her rendition of I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing and is now waiting to hear if she’ll be back for the live semi-final.

“It was like, I’ve been singing to this baby for a year in my front room, hair scruffed up and we’re just gonna go.
“I walked out and I just loved every second. It felt like home being up there, I loved having a crowd like that, meeting the judges as well.
“All of them are stunning – Alesha and Amanda are the two most beautiful people I’ve ever seen in my life.
“It felt like I was in a dream.”
Of Ant and Dec, she added: “You watch these people your whole life – they are literally the biggest icons in the world. They were just so lovely and made me feel so comfortable. I felt like they were family, they’re really just so genuine.”
Ms Barrett didn’t even have a bad word to say about Mr Cowell, who was “down to earth” and had “kind eyes”.
In the video clip of her audition the judges can be heard comparing her voice to that of Tottenham-born megastar Adele.
“To be compared to the likes of bloody Adele is outrageous isn’t it? It’s unbelievable – just to have been compared to her, it’s everything I could’ve dreamed of,” she said.
She hopes her singing can bring other people the healing that it brought her in the difficult aftermath of her baby’s birth.
“I feel like I’ve been given a voice and if I can do anything it would be to heal people with my voice. I just want it to show other mums that there’s light at the end of the tunnel.
“I want to empower them and let them know that they are heard and seen. I feel like I went through what I went through to do that now. That’s why this is happening. This is my awakening, empowering moment – this is my ‘I’ve got something to say’ moment.”
