TWENTY bikes were handed over to refugee families as part of a project that makes sure every child has a chance to cycle.
Volunteers from the Alexandra Wylie Tower Foundation and Islington Cycling Club came together for a session at the Archway Campus to repair the worn-down two-wheelers and give them a new lease of life.
Islington North MP Jeremy Corbyn, who visited the volunteers, recalled getting his very first bike, a Triumph Palm Beach, and said the project helped children gain “confidence, freedom, happiness, and create memories that stay with them for life”.
He said he still owns his now 65-year-old bike. “I could never part with it because of the memories attached to it,” Mr Corbyn added. “I also remember exactly the street where I learned to ride, and it still looks the same today.”
