THE police officer at the centre of an allegation he drove at speed with the blue lights and two-tone sirens blaring to deliver a coffee to a colleague is set to face disciplinary proceedings, following a complaint by a member of the public.
Gordon McIntosh was out cycling when a police van “travelling at speed” along Pentonville Road hurried people across a crossing before parking outside Islington police station in Angel.
He said an officer in the van handed a coffee to a colleague who was waiting outside the police station.
“I asked the sergeant why he had used emergency procedures to deliver a coffee,” Mr McIntosh said.
“He told me that they were en route to a murder.”
In an email to Mr McIntosh this week, a police officer from the Professional Standards Unit confirmed the case has been “subject” to special procedures.
A police spokesperson added: “Special procedures can be used when there is an indication an officer may have committed a criminal offence or behaved in a manner that would justify the bringing of disciplinary proceedings. In this case the latter. It is common for public complaints to be subject to special procedures. Special procedures exist to protect the rights of those under investigation.”
The possible outcomes of the investigation could be no further action, a form of learning or misconduct proceedings.
