Jan Dorling is hoping to raise funds for the club by fulfilling her mother’s idea
A BOAT club in Angel is looking to raise £50,000 to keep going after suffering financial losses in the Covid crisis.
Islington Boat Club marked its 50th birthday with the launch of the “Mission 50” fundraising drive.
Office manager Jan Dorling said: “With the lockdown the club became a bit like a ghost ship because we’ve never really had to close the doors before. We are trying to be as self-sufficient as we can offering courses to school groups and adults at a minimal cost.”
Ms Dorling has decided to crochet 50 squares in memory of her mother, Joan Cook, who had offered to knit squares to help raise funds but who sadly died age 92 last month.
“She was known by the club and all the staff knew her,” said Ms Dorling. “I just felt like it was something she would want me to see through for her.”
