IT wasn’t just the men’s team that suffered an FA Cup shock at the weekend as Arsenal Women were also dumped out of the competition.

Second-half goals saw Brighton & Hove Albion stun the Gunners at Meadow Park on Easter Sunday. Afterwards Renée Slegers admitted that the Seagulls deserved the 2-0 win, and the semi-final spot that comes with it.

“I think we have to put our hands up and own the performance and congratulate Brighton because they managed the game better than us,” said the Arsenal boss.

A busy schedule after the international break will see Arsenal tackle OL Lyonnes in the semi-finals of the Women’s Champions League along with five more games in the Women’s Super League.

Slegers added: ”Of course we look forward to that because we want to be competing. But that’s also why we are very disappointed, because we want to be competing in the FA Cup as well.”
