Both public and private housing sectors are being whacked

Thursday, 4th August

• ISLINGTON and Shoreditch Housing Association’s sale of social housing on Newton Street is just a continuation of a long trend of social housing sales to raise cash for local authorities.

Incredibly since the process started in 1980 there has been a nationwide reduction in social dwellings of more than 1.5million.

Of those remaining, tenants are getting older so the problem for younger eligible tenants is getting even more pronounced.

This government is completely silent on additional social housing provision, presumably as it is a big cost. It continues instead to bleed this and the private sector.

So what is going to happen to the housing crisis with both the public and the private sector being whacked? Nothing good I fear.
