• AT the time of the EU referendum, the leaders of the Leave campaign told the British people we could leave the EU while at the same time getting a good trade deal that would give us what we wanted out of the EU – and we would not have to pay anything to get it.

After two years, the government is now telling us that that is not so and never will be so. The government’s White Paper puts forward a completely different deal that wasn’t put to the people at the time of the referendum.

So what do we think of that? Everyone knows that, if someone sells you something and doesn’t deliver, you cancel the deal and get your money back. Brexiters now have no business pursuing Brexit.

If they want to carry on with it, they need to say what exactly it is that they are now going for and give us the opportunity to vote on it. The conning has to stop.
