Bus garage is a blight for us

Friday, 25th October 2019

• ON behalf of myself and many of my neighbours, can I thank Upper Holloway Bus Garage for their inspired decision to lay down steel sheets across the holes they’d made in the Monnery Road exit last Wednesday.

Not only had we the noise of drilling, digging and fettling from before 9am but when the digging ceased, we had buses lumbering over the steel sheets.

Think of squadrons of skip lorries driving past your home all night, that’ll give you some idea of the noise. Thank god none of us need sleep. What a blessing it was to be awake at 3am.

There is an alternate exit from the garage just a few metres up the road in Pemberton Terrace but, thoughtfully, the managers decided not to open those gates. Bless.

Sarcasm aside, us locals put up with an awful lot from that garage. There have been noisy refurbishments going on for some time now, with cement lorries and large construction plant lumbering up and down our road.

There are the buses using the junction of Pemberton Terrace and Monnery Road to make illegal three-point turns on the public highway.

There are the drivers who turn up for the start of their shift at 5am with music blaring and car doors slamming without a care in the world for us. And now this.

You are not a good neighbour, Upper Holloway Bus Garage, in fact you’re a blight. Rest assured, I will be writing to the mayor because this last act of contempt was just one step too far.
