Cutting No 4 bus would deprive thousands of a vital hospital visit [Oxyman_Wiki Commons]
• TRANSPORT for London is, as announced, seriously considering scrapping the No 4 bus.
Yet Islington Council introduced many low traffic neighbourhoods, LTNs, in the hope that more people use public transport. How very contrary.
The No 4 is unusual in that it goes southwards to Barbican, St Paul’s before ending at Blackfriars. Northwards it runs to the Whittington Hospital.
For anybody living, say, in the Blackstock Road area this route is uniquely useful. It is the only bus from there to go to the Barbican and on to Blackfriars.
But most important of all is its direct journey to the Whittington. To cut this would deprive thousands of people of a vital hospital visit. The only other way involves two changes.
