Can politicians pass my four tests?

Friday, 21st April 2017

• AS we’ve seen all too often, politicians are not honest with the electorate, and don’t keep their word. So even if they promise things you do agree with, how can you really know whom to vote for?

I’d vote for:

Someone who makes their electoral promises under oath.

Someone who promises to legislate to make politicians at all levels conduct their debates under “the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth” rules.

Someone who promises to legislate to do the same for all public announcements, press releases and e-media postings.

Someone who promises to legislate to provide a simple and accessible method for ordinary people to hold politicians, the bureaucracy and commercial and institutional authorities personally responsible for their actions.

Sounds idealistic, but could anything less than real “truth and consequences” make their words anything more than a waste of air?
