A BLOCK of flats was evacuated yesterday (Thursday) morning after a large fire broke out.

Thirty-five people left their homes to escape the blaze on Bakersfield estate near  Holloway Road.

A 41-year-old man was later arrested after a number of cannabis plants were found and he was questioned on sus­picion of “producing a controlled drug”.

Crews from Kentish Town, Holloway, Islington and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

The fire was under control in 90 minutes. Residents were taken to a nearby rest centre. There are no reports of any injuries.
