Can’t the noisy car imports just be taken off our streets?

Noise machines menace parts of London

• AS anyone who has ever imported one into the UK will know, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency requires that until a vehicle has been modified to meet the required Department for Transport standards it cannot be registered, taxed or insured.

It is obvious that the noise machines which menace parts of London do not comply with DfT regulations on silencers and number plate recognition and are therefore being used illegally on public roads and their insurance – if any – is invalid.

Can they not simply be taken off the road by the authorities until the owners make the necessary modifications to comply with regulations?
