• THE reason politicians would not want Catholic schools forming academy trusts is not because they love Catholics (Catholic schools reject academy trust option, March 9). It is because councils can put children into Catholic schools.

Catholic schools had the opportunity years ago to go independent. I believe they should have. Irish people built and paid for the Catholic schools but parents’ voices are never heard.
