King Henry’s Walk Adventure Playground in Mildmay now has a zip line

A NEW zip line and fire pit are among the major improvements being made to King Henry’s Walk Adventure Playground in Mildmay.

The project was funded by a grant from the Better Youth Spaces Fund, a UK government-funded programme that supports the improvement of youth facilities.

Upgrades include an outdoor stage and amphitheatre for performances and events, which the owners say will encourage creativity and playfulness in the space.

There will also be improvements to landscaping lighting and pathways, making the site a safe and welcoming environment for families nearby.

The improvements were marked with a lively community celebration at the weekend, bringing together local families – many visiting for the first time – alongside young people and supporters.

Guy Lawrence, Managing Director of Awesome CIC, said: “We’re proud to be able to offer more opportunities for young people to come together, be active and express themselves.

“We’re grateful for the Better Youth Spaces funding and to Jenny, who helped us to secure the funding. The launch event showed exactly what this space is about: community, creativity and young people taking ownership.”

Ella Monaghan, Playground Manager, said: “It meant a lot to celebrate this with the community – the turnout and energy were fantastic.

“These new spaces are already making a difference, giving young people more reasons to stay, get involved and feel they belong.”

Cllr Jenny Kay said: “I was really happy to help secure these improvements for King Henry’s Walk. Adventure playgrounds are incredibly special places for children to explore and build confidence and independence.

“This investment is particularly important in making sure older children, especially girls, feel this space is for them. Huge credit to Ella and Guy for making it happen.”
