Jason and Mandy Whittaker met at the Whittington 30 years ago
A HOSPITAL romance that blossomed at the Whittington 30 years ago – and is still going strong today – was celebrated at an event paying tribute to 40 members of long-serving staff at the Archway hospital.
Jason Whittaker was working as a cleaner when he first clapped eyes on his now wife Mandy as he dropped off his time sheets at payroll.
The couple, who still work at the hospital, now in senior roles, have a combined 67 years’ service.
They fell in love during late-night karaoke at the old Whittington’s former social club.
Mr Whittaker said: “My mum and dad worked at the Whittington, I was born there, Mandy was born there. Our son was born there and he, too, worked there for a bit. The place has just got bigger and bigger and it’s always been there for us.”
Dr Clare Dollery, deputy hospital chief said, “We feel really lucky to have people like the Whittakers as part of our Whittington family and are so thankful for the dedication and commitment they have shown to our organisation.”
