Clean the towpath – let’s get back to basic hygiene
Saturday, 25th April 2020

• THIS was the scene at the weekend, along the canal towpath between Danbury Street and Baring Street.
The bins haven’t been emptied since before Easter and one of the few “green” spaces where people can exercise is becoming an eyesore and a health hazard.
Our lovely council roadsweeper, Graham, tells us he has been told not to sweep the towpath any more because it will be cleaned by private contractors. But, as the photograph shows, this is not happening.
Perhaps the council who, in these difficult times, are still collecting the full whack of council tax could direct their efforts towards basic hygiene rather than some of their more absurd recent activities such as making Duncan Terrace Gardens and the New River Walk one-way.
