England fans outside the Exmouth Arms celebrate Ollie Watkins’ late winner that sent Gareth Southgate’s side through to Euros final
WHEN the final whistle blew, Exmouth Market erupted: a sea of limbs, a hug for the nearest person and, of course, a big old sing-song.
England had beaten the Netherlands and had booked a place in Sunday’s Euros final against Spain, so there was only one appropriate track: It’s coming home, it’s coming home, football’s com… and you know the rest.
More than a hundred fans were crowded around a TV outside the Exmouth Arms.
Then came Sweet Caroline, the tune that will undoubtedly follow England manager Gareth Southgate wherever he goes from now on – and that’s before we even dare to dream about Sunday’s result.
Camilla and Sigurd Jenssen Mayer (above) had been watching the footie at their Clerkenwell home but came out for a bike ride around the area after the win to soak in the atmosphere.

Sigurd, 10, said: “Ollie Watkins saved us! I couldn’t stand another penalty shootout!”
Asked what he expects from Sunday’s game, he added: “It’s coming home! Cole Palmer to score
the winner!”
