It was summer party time in Newington Green
NEWINGTON Green came alive on Saturday as hundreds of people visited the community festival.
Organised by volunteers from the Newington Green Action Group, local residents came to celebrate independent businesses in the area and community spirit to the backdrop of jazz.
Volunteers and local eateries ran Ethiopian, Guyanese, Palestinian and Scandinavian food stalls and a children’s area was hosted by storyteller Dragonfly Tales.
Kids enjoyed free face painting curtesy of a grant from Islington Giving’s Make it Happen fund.

The event raised money to buy 200 solar panels for Newington Green Primary School, which is set to become the first primary school in the borough to install solar panels.
“This festival is an annual chance to come together as a community. This year we’re also fundraising for a great cause,” said lead organiser Jenny Kay.
“Every pound raised will be match funded and brings us closer to powering the school with clean energy and making sure more of the funding goes towards to the kids education.”
