Namixx gymnasts got to showcase their skills at the club’s annual family fun day at William Ellis School

BEAMING young gymnasts jumped at the chance to display their skills at a special in-house competition.

More than 300 children aged four to 16 years old took part in Namixx Gymnastics Club’s annual family fun day, which was held at William Ellis School in Highgate Road recently.

The celebrations started before any of the gymnasts had even taken to the floor, with youngsters showcasing their creativity by decorating their bib numbers in bright colours inspired by their favourite Disney characters.

Then music filled the sports hall and the energy levels soared as club members performed a series of well-rehearsed floor routines.

But a family fun day can’t just be about the kids, and it was only right that the parents had the opportunity to perform their routines, too.

Describing the event as “a special community get-together”, Raquel Lawal, who runs Namixx with her sister Bianca, said: “It was such a great day. We received such positive feedback.

“Our end-of-year party is a really special event that brings all of our gymnasts and their families together. Not all of our gymnasts get the opportunity to compete in competitions, and those who do don’t always get to perform in front of their whole family.

“This celebration invites everyone to get involved; we’ve got mothers, fathers, siblings, aunties, uncles – all coming along to join in.

“The parents all get involved, too, performing their own balancing and jumping routines, with handstands and cartwheels.

“It’s so, so good. This is such a special community get-together. It’s always so much fun.

“I want to say congratulations to the whole Namixx team following another great season, and for continuing to make our community proud.”

Gymnasts will now take a well-earned break. But with Namixx also celebrating their fifth birthday, the action is far from over. The club will be holding three-day summer camps across Camden and Islington this summer for children aged four to 14 years old.
