• I KNOW Pat Edlin’s letter was not a reply to my letter (MPs must back a People’s Vote, February 1), in which I reported what people have been saying to me about Jeremy Corbyn and Emily Thornberry.

But his letter (‘Corbyn doesn’t care’ smear, February 8) raises an important point. True friends tell you what you need to know. False friends tell you what you want to hear or what they would like you to hear.

Political leaders like Jeremy Corbyn need to pay attention to their true friends, not the false ones.
