IT is a headline which could prove very sensible – or very embarrassing depending on how the next eight days pan out.

But it emerged yesterday (Thursday) that Islington Council has begun negotiations with police about closing off the roads for a possible trophy parade for Arsenal.

To win their first Premier League title in 20 years, the Gunners need to claim victory in their last two matches and then hope for a miracle: the rare occurrence of moneybags Man City dropping points.

With nerves jangling among fans and prayers being said, some might say the preparations for an open top bus tour around Islington risks tempting fate.

But the council has begun warning residents close to the Emirates Stadium and Upper Street that there may be disruption from 5pm on May 20. This would be just a day after the last game of the season and needs careful co-ordination. The first step for Mikel Arteta’s men is an away match against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
