Crack squad of guerrilla gardeners to descend on Islington
Friday, 13th July 2018
• IT was good to see plants gracing the interior of Arsenal tube station. I hope that people in surrounding streets will donate plants and pots to make it even greener. Arsenal FC could also contribute.
Things may seem gloomy as the social divisions within Islington deepen, but there are some good omens on the horizon. Next year, London is due to be officially designated as a Park City, which is being launched on July 21. More pots and plants will be encouraged and the city will become greener.
And I was pleased to see the introduction of car-charging points in Isledon Road and St Thomas’s Road. There will be more restrictions on large cars and more bikes will be encouraged. And there will eventually be more restrictions on housebuilding
But for a Park City to become a reality it will mean everybody taking part in making the place greener. A crack squad of guerrilla gardeners – legendary for their deviousness, cunning and blind allegiance to all things green – is about to descend on Islington. Fun times ahead!
Meanwhile, residents could start adopting their trees and encourage more pots and plants on pavements and streets. Let’s make Islington lush and green. I hope that the Green Party will take a lead in this, instead of just spouting slogans.
Just ignore the overpaid bureaucrats, pen-pushers, busybodies and their killjoy counterparts who want to make Islington drown in a bureaucratic nightmare of petty rules and regulations.
They get paid for focusing on soft targets. But they may have pushed their luck as a number of test cases will clarify the matter. Time’s up for overpaid bureaucrats. Green is good.
