The Gun Pub Second Team line up after their triumph in the Junior Cup, beating CF Phoenix in the final

THE wait for silverware is over after The Gun Pub Second Team fired their way to a dominant double in the Camden Sunday League.

Having charged to the Division Two title without yet losing a single game, Joshua Ablett’s side have now added the league’s Junior Cup to the club’s rapidly-filling trophy cabinet.

Striker Adam Heardman “found the top bins” with a well-executed half-volley to give The Gun the lead against CF Phoenix in the final. It was the forward’s 12th goal in his last five games – taking him to 25 and counting for the season.

Their opponents hit back to level the scores from the penalty spot, but The Gun weren’t going to misfire at Hackney Marshes as wingback George Lawson capped a man-of-the-match display by racing onto Heardman’s cross and drilling home what proved to be the winner.

“Since moving to the Camden Sunday League it feels like we’ve often been the bridesmaid and never the bride, finishing second and third and just missing out,” said player-manager Ablett following the 2-1 victory. “It feels great to finally get our hands on some silverware.

“The double is testimony to all the effort and contributions of all the lads involved. It’s a great reward for all their hard work.”
