David London

• I SHALL miss David London’s sense of humour, (Queen’s Crescent stops to pay tribute to boxing trainer David London, January 23).

His nickname for me was Speedy Gonzales, because he often said to me, with a smile on his face, that every time he sees me I am always running about everywhere.

I explained to David that I was often training, being someone that runs a lot of races for different charities, which he found interesting.

He was a boxing coach, and loved anything to do with physical fitness. I often used to see David outside in the park, at Lismore Circus, with the boxing pads out training people, when I used to be using the outdoor gym, doing my weight training. Sometimes I would go over to him to say hello, just small talk, then go back to what I was doing.

He was a real confidence builder. I remember one person that had low self-esteem, who he was trying to give boxing training to, and he made this guy have self confidence, just by making him believe in himself. That’s the kind of person David was – he knew how to make people believe in themselves, and gain self-confidence.

He was such a really lovely guy, with a kind heart, and always giving his time to others. There are not many people like that these days, sadly. He shall be sorely missed. RIP.
