DETECTIVES investigating the murder of Jonathon “JJ” McPhillips have made a seventh arrest.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of JJ’s murder on Sunday. He was questioned at an east London police station and later released on bail.

JJ, a 28-year-old father-of-two, was stabbed in the chest outside Islington Assembly Hall, close to his home, in February. He was taken to the Royal London Hospital, in Whitechapel, where he died on March 1. So far no one has been charged in connection with the killing.

A 17-year-old who was also stabbed was subsequently discharged from hospital. He has refused to cooperate with the investigation led by Detective Chief Inspector Dave Whellams, of the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command.

Detectives earlier made six arrests in connection with the murder. In March, they arrested five men aged between 19 and 24 as well as a 45-year-old woman, held on suspicion of assisting an offender.

All suspects have been bailed to dates in mid-June.

Today (Friday), JJ’s mother Michelle, friends and family will gather at the steps of the Town Hall at 3pm to release 29 red balloons to mark JJ’s 29th birthday, which would have been on Saturday.

Ms McPhillips said the colour of the balloons was a nod to Arsenal, to the London Air Ambulance and because it was JJ’s favourite colour.

Anyone who witnessed JJ’s killing or who has any information is asked to call the incident room on 020 8345 3775.
