DIESEL car drivers will have to pay an extra £2 an hour when parking in the borough from the start of next year.

The Town Hall has introduced the charge to drive down pollution and improve air quality. Diesel particulates are linked to cancer and heart disease.

Residents with diesel cars already pay a surcharge for parking permits but this will now also apply to short-stay visitor parking.
