THOSE searching for a late night snack on the streets of south Islington might find their go-to spot has suddenly vanished after “dodgy” hot dog stands have been shut down by Islington Council.
Five sellers have now been prosecuted by the council since September after colleagues from the City of London warned that the mobile stalls posed a public health hazard.
Authorities were alerted to the illegal sales after sellers were seen serving hot dogs outside Fabric nightclub, a pub and Farringdon and Angel stations without any hand washing equipment.
Huseyn Ackcadag, Ali Osman, Mohammad Hasan, Mohamed Abdullah and Abidin Ceran were fined a total of £3,256 after they were found guilty of street trading without a licence, under section 38 of the London Local Authorities Act 1990.
Islington’s community safety chief John Woolf said: “In the interest of public health and safety, we have put a stop to these dodgy hot dog dealers.
“Islington residents must be able to trust our legal street vendors which keep our local economy thriving.
Cllr Woolf added: “Thanks to cross-borough working and the dedication of our Compliance, Out of Hours and Parkguard teams, these offenders have been held accountable.”
