Does pub still have a special place for Ella and friends?

• AS a frequent visitor to the Coronet public house in Holloway Road, I was surprised to learn that Age UK “no longer fits the bill”.

However, in the winter of 2018, Wetherspoon News, page 73, had the caption: “Ella and friends find special place in pub”.

The article states: “The group meet in the pub where, in addition to a discounted meal and a drink, participants are also treated to informative talks from companies with nearby offices.”

When I, with the aforementioned Ella, inquired as to why the service was withdrawn we were told by the new manager that it came from head office.

To be sure, other public houses in the area welcome Age UK with open arms, including the Duke of Cambridge (every Monday lunchtime) and the Stapleton Tavern, with a Christmas meal and free entertainment. And there is “pay what you can” at the Park Theatre every month.

I have written to Tim Martin, chairman of Wetherspoon, but as of last week had no response. Is anybody out there?
