MORE than £500 was raised at a popular dog competition to help pay for a new water fountain in an Upper Holloway park.

About 200 spectators cheered on 26 canine entrants in the third- annual Dog Olympix in Whittington Park on Saturday.

Organiser Sunnie De Pass said of the event: “The atmosphere was a like a peaceful country village fair, it was authentic.”

She is applying for extra funding to pay for the new £6,000 fountain for pets and people.

Currently, hounds have to use a plastic container in the park.

The games this year were commemorated to Guardian journalist, Michele Hanson who lived in Tufnell Park and passed away in March.
