Don’t forget the odds were against the leavers

• PATRICK Edlin argues that leavers would have demanded another referendum if they had lost by 4 per cent, (Brexiteers promises ignore the realities, October 25).

As a leaver I disagree. Leavers would not have complained simply because they expected to lose. The remain campaign was always odds-on to win.

On the day of the referendum Ladbrokes and William Hill were offering 6/1 on remain winning with 4/1 against on leave winning.

Indeed, on the eve of the referendum Nigel Farage admitted the chances were that leave was going to lose.

The electorate accept the results of general elections, why should a referendum result be any different?

One final point. Mr Edlin says in June 2016 we could legitimately be called bad and badly informed Europeans.

He continues to say that in the intervening years we may now be the best informed Europeans. I agree.

We know a lot more about the European Union, which explains precisely why the Brexit Party easily won the most seats in the recent European Parliament elections.
