• WHAT a beautiful weekend it was and people were out in Tollington ward, safely enjoying their one piece of open space where they could – and did – have picnics, play with their children, lie down in the sunshine and read, play with their friends, learn football skills, play in the cricket nets and more.

I counted, at noon, 20 people, and 40 people at 5pm on Saturday. But I suspect these adults and children did not know that the council intends to allow that open space to be booked out every day April to October in the future, when the proposed new pavilion is built.

I have seen plans to make it only available to the general public to use freely on two evenings and Sunday mornings. I think all residents should be told and have the opportunity to decide if that is what they want.
