A “JOYOUS” winter market of locally homemade gifts took over Newington Green at the weekend, featuring free live music, spoken word and storytelling.

The inaugural Makers and Creators Winter Market – run by Newington Green Action Group and funded by a government grant – had a focus on affordable, eco-friendly gifts from local businesses like Gallivant Perfumes and Mafura Naturals Skincare.

“We wanted to create an event that felt inclusive, while also promoting the importance of supporting local businesses and makers,” said Jenny Kay, co-chair of Newington Green Action Group.

“It was joyous to see people of all ages learning and celebrating together.”

Professional storyteller Emily Hanna-Grazebrook, of Dragonfly Tales, enchanted children with festive yarns, drag king Rhys’ Pieces wowed the crowd with their Santa-inspired performance, and drummers Pumpkin Jigsaw got people dancing.
