• SINCE the election campaign began in earnest my household recycling has shot up: all those glossy leaflets from the Lib Dems are filling up my green bin on a regular basis.

Shame there aren’t any actual activists knocking on doors – they could take their rubbish out with them. Still, at least we have a Labour council who take this seriously.

The last time a Lib Dem was seen in the town hall Islington had one of the lowest recycling rates in London and what was processed was sent to the third world to be picked over by orphans.

Hopefully we will soon have a Labour government that will be able to make a difference to our environment nationally, as it has done locally.
