Eric always seemed to be even-handed

• I WAS sorry to hear the passing of Eric Gordon, (Eric Gordon: Tributes to Camden’s great chronicler as founder and editor of CNJ dies at 89, April 8).
Eric lived a short distance from me and we were always exchanging pleasantries when we met. He knew of my family who have lived in the area since 1885.
I admired Eric for his knack of being in the right place at the right time. He was mild mannered and a little cheeky. He once took a photo of me without me knowing.
The turnaround time of the CNJ is staggering. When I was a councillor, I received a phone call from the CNJ at about midnight. The comments I made were in print at 7am the following day.
He had a photographic memory. I made a comment to him in the street, and a few days later a journalist contacted me to follow up the story.
He always seemed to be even-handed. I understand that he was active at the CNJ within a few days of passing away. The idea of retirement never crossed his mind.
I hope that his traditions will continue. He will be missed.
