Estate residents and councillors celebrate the opening of the new square
NEWLY-OPENED Canalside Square has been hailed as “a fantastic new space”.
On the banks of Regent’s Canal near Angel, the new square on the partly-redeveloped Packington estate has grassy mounds for picnics, benches, seasonal plants and a mosaic by Islington artist Tess Hunkin.
Part of the estate redevelopment, the square is the result of a collaboration between Hyde Housing, Islington Council, and developer Atkins and Rydon.
Environment chief Councillor Claudia Webbe said: “This is a fantastic new space for local people, and we look forward to it becoming as loved and well-used as Islington’s other open spaces.”
