A NEW poetry collection reflecting on the eccentricities of everyday life has been released by Holloway-based poet and journalist David Floyd.
A Night At The Snooker was released this year through poetry publisher Hearing Eye, which is based in Kentish Town. Mr Floyd who has lived in Holloway Road for roughly 20 years, has been frequenting pubs and venues across London to perform readings from the collection, which contains more than 30 poems.
He told the Tribune there was a “wide landscape” of topics discussed in the collection, from oat milk to the “impact of arbitrary bureaucracy”. The majority were produced in the past few years, but some date further back.
He said: “I’ve been writing poetry since I was in school, but because I have a day job and other things going on, the time I have to commit to it sort of ebbs and flows.
“But in the last three or four years I’ve become more focused on doing it and trying to write more, and write better, and build up more of a body of work, which led towards the book.
“Some of the ideas for poems just come straight out of day-to-day occurrences, but through my poetry I try to approach them in a different, and hopefully entertaining way.”
Mr Floyd also hosts the poetry reading group “the Poetry Lounge” at the Boogaloo on the first Wednesday of each month, and advised anybody interested in poetry to “get along to local open-mic meetings and have a go”.
He will also be performing at the poetry stage at the Caledonian Road Festival on July 5.
Outside of his poetry, Mr Floyd is the managing director of Social Spider, an independent news publisher.
