Fly the flag: Happy St Andrew’s Day!
Scottish celebrations outside the Town Hall
Friday, 1st December 2023 — By Nicole Mousicos

FOR the first time ever, the Scottish flag has been flown outside the Town Hall.
Yesterday (Thursday), Mayor Gary Heather proudly posed with the flag on the Town Hall’s steps for St Andrew’s Day.
St Andrew was adopted as the patron saint of Scotland in 1320.
Islington mayor Gary Heather, whose mother came from Glasgow to settle in the borough in the 1980s, expressed a sense of excitement at having his maternal roots represented, and cited the ability to interact with the people of the borough as one of the perks of his roll as mayor.
Caledonian ward councillor Paul Convery, a Scot himself, was also present, and said he was proud to see the Town Hall flying “all four flags of the British Isles”.
The flag will be flown for a week, next to the Union Jack, and the national flags of England and Wales.
