Lynda Bennett says she was injured after being hit by a truck driven by a fly-tipper near her home
POLICE are investigating a woman’s claims that she was nearly run over by a fly-tipper.
Lynda Bennett says she was sitting at home in her flat in Camden Road, Holloway, when she saw someone driving a truck with construction rubbish on it.
She said: “I saw the tipper coming up and thought, ‘Oh, my God.’ So, I just ran down the stairs with my phone.
“As I got to the bottom of the steps, the driver came flying down towards me [in his truck], saying ‘Get out the way, get out the way’ to me.”
Ms Bennett says the driver then started trying to shove her out of the way with his truck by driving towards her and stopping abruptly before he hit her as he tried to leave the scene via an archway to the road.
“I had to press myself against the wall, and he drove forward really fast while I was like that. He took part of the drain out with him as he went,” she said.
“I had to squeeze out and climb underneath a railing to get to safety.
“My neighbour came down and stood in front of the truck to help me and made the driver stop. It was really scary, he was using his truck as a weapon, basically.”
The fly-tipped rubbish is set to be removed by a specialist team at the end of this month.
Police told the Tribune: “A woman called police at 16.17 on 10 January to report that she had been struck by a van that was allegedly fly-tipping in Camden Road N7. She sustained an arm injury.
“There have been no arrests; enquiries continue.”
